Last week I wrote about Dana, the reliable one, who agreed to take apart her own job before the VP finished the sentence. Her turning point wasn’t a plan. It was one honest sentence, said out loud to someone who had stood where she was standing: this one is hard for me.
If you’ve been the steady one for a long time, you may know the stretch that comes before a sentence like that. You answer “fine” when people ask how you’re doing, and it’s mostly true. The work still gets done, and the calendar still holds. Underneath, though, something has shifted, and you can’t yet name it. A role that once fit sits a little heavier, and the future that used to seem obvious has gone blurry.
Perhaps you keep it to yourself. The people around you still need you steady, and saying it out loud can feel like admitting you’ve lost your footing. So you do what has always worked: think harder, plan more, push for an answer. And at four in the morning, the questions run anyway. Why don’t I know what’s next? I’ve always known.
Here’s what I’ve learned from years of sitting with people in exactly that place: the answer rarely comes from thinking harder alone. It tends to come after what you held in finally gets said, in a room where nobody needs you to have it figured out.
Most people in the in-between never get that room.
I’m opening this room for you.
Between Currents
Between Currents™ is a free, live, 90-minute workshop on Zoom, on Wednesday, October 21st, at 10:00 AM Pacific. It’s for anyone between one chapter and the next: a job, a relationship, or a season of life that’s ending, or a shift nobody else can see yet.
There’s no need to know what’s next before you come. All it takes is a willingness to name where you are.
The session follows the Ripple Journey™, the framework behind much of what we write here at Betweenward™: the Drop, the Inner Wave, the Middle Wave, the Outer Wave, and Still Water. For ninety minutes, you’ll experience each stage directly, alongside others who are standing in the in-between too.
What previous participants said
“Sacred and necessary in preparation for the journey ahead.”
“I am less emotional now than I was an hour and a half ago.”
“This was an incredibly fast 90 minutes. Wow! So glad to have so many wonderful humans sharing time together.”
What you’ll leave with
A private, written inventory of what you’re still carrying that has value: the judgment, steadiness, and experience that don’t disappear when a chapter closes.
A map of the people, skills, and experience you can draw on.
One small, specific next step to take that same week.
Your Ripple Snapshot, a short before-and-after report emailed a few days after the workshop ends, showing your shifts in your sense of capability, your ability to act despite uncertainty, and your sense of meaning.
The Snapshot compares a brief assessment you take before the workshop with one you take after. The first one comes with your registration confirmation, so registering early gives you time to complete it before we meet.
